Cloud cover had a hard time leaving the South Plains today. This kept our temperatures cooler than what was forecast. Around 3:00 this afternoon the sun finally came out as breezy south winds picked up. Low clouds will continue to diminish towards the east this evening. Here are today's numbers:

Patchy fog may redevelop tonight across the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Looks like folks east of the Hub City have a better shot of seeing some fog early Monday morning. Patchy fog will be short lived as breezy winds pick up tomorrow.
Focus will be on the extreme high wind event likely tomorrow. The National Weather Service has gone ahead and issued a Red Flag Warning and a High Wind Watch for Monday.

A strong upper-level trough will deepen into a closed low across Colorado tonight and into tomorrow morning. This feature will move across the Panhandle and Kansas tomorrow afternoon and evening. This will allow gradient tightening of the low to mid levels. The jet streak should move just north of Lubbock Monday afternoon. As a result, extremely high winds are likely. Expect west winds to pick up mid-morning and last till sundown. Sustained winds between 30-45 mph with gusts around 60 mph will cause some damage to light structures and utilities. Blowing dust will pick up and reduce visibilities at times, even though we saw some rain Friday and Saturday. Humidity values will drop below 15% making it very dry across our area. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
Quiet weather expected for the remainder of the week. Temperatures should be at or above average. Winds look breezy once again Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Have a great Sunday! I will have more details tonight on the News at Nine.
