A grand jury indicts Crosby County Sheriff David Barker on charges of official oppression and assault of a public servant.
According to court documents the charges stem from a September 8th incident involving Lorenzo Police Officer Daniel Patterson.
County Attorney Michael Ward said Barker turned himself in on Tuesday and bonded out of jail.
County Judge David Wigley is awaiting legal advice on how the indictments may affect the sheriff's status with the county. He said in the meantime Barker is still on the job.
Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
