Eppler: Best movies of the summer so far

We're about halfway through the summer movie season. Here's a look at the best we've seen so far.

We all know "Avengers: Endgame" was really good - no surprise, but I'd argue it wasn't the best Disney sequel this summer."Toy Story 4" tells a tighter story, and it's shocking how excellent it is on every level - fitting in perfectly to an already perfect series. And who doesn't love Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboob?

Reeves also owns the summer's best non-Disney sequel - "John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum" is a blast with Reeves pairing with Halle Berry for a killer action sequence, but the summer's best on-screen paring so far this summer is Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron in "Long Shot" delivering huge laughs.

The best movie you didn't see is "Booksmart."It's a savagely funny high school comedy with a lot to say.

The movie I liked but you probably didn't is "The Dead Don't Die," a deadpan zombie comedy and a metaphor for climate change. Believe me, I get why you didn't like it.

The movie most likely to be up for Oscars so far this summer is "Rocketman" with Taron Edgerton dynamite and devastating as Elton John.

Another music movie with Oscar potential, the best movie I've seen at home this summer is "Rolling Thunder Revue," Martin Scorsese's documentary on Netflix about a Bob Dylan 1975 tour. Like Dylan's voice the movie is pure bliss if you're a fan, and potentially grating if you're not.
