12 MIGHTY ORPHANS
LUBBOCK, TX (KTJV) - "12 Mighty Orphans" is based on the true story of a team of teenage orphans in Fort Worth during the Depression recruited by a coach to learn the game and face some major opponents. The team wound up gaining national attention, as detailed in the book by Jim Dent, on which the movie was based.

Production shot in Fort Worth and Weatherford featuring locals in smaller roles alongside star Luke Wilson, who was born in the metroplex.

Co-producer Camille Scioli Chambers, from Lubbock, says it all adds to the authenticity of a Texas picture.

"A lot of the extras we took from the area," Chambers said. "Some of them are actually orphans and people that live at the pythiam home in weatherford. It was fun to add to major stars like Luke Wilson, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Vanessa Shaw and Wayne Knight. These are big stars and these people got to be in scenes with them."

Chambers' last movie, "The Iron Orchard," shot in Big Spring and got a great reception here. She's hoping this will, too.

"As a Lubbock filmmaker, I'm glad to be home. I never imagined I'd get to show stuff that I worked on in my hometown," she said.

"12 Mighty Orphans" is playing only at Premiere Cinemas in the South Plains Mall.
