April is National Donate Life Month.

The Texas organization LifeGift is bringing awareness to the importance of organ donations this month.

April is known as national donate life month. It's meant to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. The organization also honors those who have saved lives with their donation.

Here in Lubbock blue and green lights will shine throughout the month, including at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Additionally, UMC will fly a donate life flag and members of Lubbock's Chamber of Commerce will wear blue and green to help raise awareness.

Claudia Sanchez, Events and Multicultural Specialist / Life Gift

"April is a moment of Spring, you know, new life," Claudia Sanchez, Events and Multicultural Specialist with LifeGift, said. "And we embrace new beginnings as well. So, April has always been national donate life month

and it's a good opportunity to start, you know, giving life and becoming an organ, eye and tissue donor."

There are 10,000 Texans waiting for transplants, while 54 percent of Texas is registered as a donor. Sanchez said it's important to raise awareness about how those donations can save lives.

"It's an opportunity that we have as a community to offer hope to the people that are waiting for a transplant in Texas, nationwide as well," she said.
