LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team concluded day one of the Bruzzy Challenge hosted at the Lantana Golf Club in fourth place Sunday as four Red Raiders rank among the top-20 individuals.
Gala Dumez sits in a tie for 12th overall at 1-under-par on the individual leaderboard, carding a 5-over-par 77 to start the tournament before having a career round later in the day. Dumez signed for a career low 6-under 66 card that included a 4-under back nine and a stretch of seven birdies over 13 holes with only one bogey on the round.
Cecilie Nielsen, Anna Dong and Amy Taylor share a tie for 19th place at 1-over to round out the top four spots in Tech's lineup. Nielsen signed 2-over and 1-under cards, while Dong posted Tech's lowest morning round at 2-under before finishing 3-over later in the day. Taylor, meanwhile, added 1-under and 2-over rounds.
Valentina Gilly, in her first appearance in the lineup this season, finished day one in a tie for 57th overall at a combined 7-over between the two rounds. Tech is without its normal leader Sofia Garcia as she is traveling for the Augusta National Women's Amateur set for later this week.
As a team, the Red Raiders concluded the two rounds in fourth place at 1-over 577. Tech's lineup combined for four under-par cards en route to a 3-over opening round followed by a five-stroke improvement to 2-under in the afternoon.
Oklahoma State holds a strong lead over the field at 19-under after a 15-under second round. Tournament host North Texas sits in second at 5-under while Oklahoma is in third at 1-under as the last team to finish the opening day under-par. Houston rounds out the top-five at 3-over for the tournament.
