LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's basketball team will travel to play Providence College in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle on Dec. 1 at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Big 12 and BIG EAST Conferences announced the dates and matchups for the third year of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle on Wednesday. Broadcast arrangements for the games will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is ESPN for the Big 12 and FOX Sports for the BIG EAST. Texas Tech did not play a BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle game last season with St. John's canceling its trip to Lubbock.

The Red Raiders and Friars have matched up only one other time with a neutral court game on Dec. 29, 1977 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Providence, which was ranked No. 13 nationally, won that Rainbow Classic matchup with a 53-52 decision. Tech played at DePaul in 2019 during the first season of matchups between the two conferences.

Providence, which has made five NCAA Tournaments in the past eight seasons, went 13-13 last season with a 9-10 record in BIG EAST play. The team's season ended with a 70-62 loss to DePaul in the opening round of the conference tournament. The Friars earned a 79-70 win over TCU in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle last season in Fort Worth after rolling to a 70-48 win over Texas in the first year of the Battle.

The four-year agreement between the two conferences will continue through the 2022-23 season with an equal number of games played in each conference's home market each year. Television designations and game times will be announced when available.
